The essential features of Qualitative Research are the choices of appropriate methods best suited to use in the study, the incorporation and analysis of different perspectives and the variety of approaches and methods. Qualitative research included the collection, analysis and interpretation of data that cannot be quantified. It largely refers to the meanings, perspectives, symbols and descriptions of the data taken (“Qualitative and Quantitative Research” n. d. ).

In order to collect data from the participants, the researchers decided to perform In-depth Interviews with the researchers and scientists conducting pertinent research about global warming, representatives of various environmentalist groups concerned on the effect of the phenomenon on the environment and ordinary people directly affected by the phenomenon. The study was conducted in the form of Action Research. It is a disciplined process of inquiry conducted by and for those taking the action.

The primary reason for engaging in action research is for the “actor” to improve and/or refine his or her actions (Sagor 2000). Through the various data and collected knowledge presented in the comprehensive research work, the study will produce relevant information that will benefit various groups concerned on the effect of global warming on the environment. The study aims to present the different effects of global warming on the various aspects of the environment, based solely on the research and the perspectives of the participants.

The study did not intend to provide solution to the current environmental dilemma. The researcher will just present the facts and information gathered pertinent to the study. In-depth Interview is an instructed interview technique where a person is interviewed by two or more person to focus on a specific concept, product, or subject (Labuschagne 2003). The method will answer the primary concern of the study, which is to know the extent of the impact of global warming on the environment. Researcher used in-depth interviews among different participants based on the study’s objectives.

In an in-depth interview, the interview guide is composed of questions such as the participant’s personal profile. Other questions will be asked pertaining to the Internship Program, its strengths, and weaknesses. Purposive sampling is the sampling technique used by the researchers in selecting the participants for the In-Depth Interviews. In Purposive Sampling, each sample element is selected for a purpose, usually because of the unique position of the sample elements. Purposive sampling may involve studying the whole population of some limited group or a subset of a population.

A purposive sample may be a “key informant survey,” which targets individuals who are particularly knowledgeable about the issues under investigation (Schutt 2006). Purposive sampling is chosen as it better emphasizes the goals of the study which is to know the perspectives of certain people who are tied with and well-informed about the subject at hand. The researchers and scientists conducting research on global warming are people with adequate knowledge about the phenomenon. They are chosen as participants because they are equipped with expertise on the subject.

The representatives of environmentalist groups are knowledgeable on the changes and the extent of the impact of global warming on the environment. These people are also conducting various researches on the environment. The ordinary people directly affected by global warming effects on the environment will render personal accounts on what might happen to people living on the same area that may sooner or later experience the same situation.
