The i-generation and the i-pod

The “i-generation” or also called the net generation are the children of the baby boomers born between 1981 and 2000. A subculture is a group of people with a culture (whether distinct or hidden) which differentiates them from the larger culture to which they belong . The i-generation is a subculture, since they are more ‘other’ than ‘me’ oriented, have more self-esteem, are more optimistic and want to create a change. The establishment of the closer, international relationship enlightens the process of changing the world to a better place, since people from various countries can put their ideas, skills, knowledge and resources to enhance the world and hence the process of improving the world is faster as well as easier. It will also indirectly improve teamwork and corporation, since people in various countries can more easily contact and hence establish a closer relationship with each other; creating a more united world and hence indirectly already changes the world to a positive way.

While some people see it as an opportunity or advantage, others might be afraid or uncomfortable of the change, which would result in less job satisfaction and hence reducing productivity and could also worsen output. Another opportunity is searching for younger lecturers, but then students might experience a problem with the change as each lecturer has his or her own teaching style, pattern, etc. This could result in a protest, which creates a loss of productivity, time and wage; or could also discomfort and thus discourage students.
