It is a fact that academic standards proportionally increase with the rise in the academic level. As the need for the intellectual capacity heightens with the corresponding academic level, the student is all the more required to adapt to these changes. There are many ways in which students attempt to blend with this situation: spending more time scanning notes and reading books, increasing class and school participation, and engaging in group studies and constant consultations with teachers just to name a few.

However, one interesting aspect in which students try to cope with the rising struggles in the academic environment is through the use of technology. Technology in modern times is still on the verge of constant evolution. Nevertheless, technology has already equipped individuals with numerous devices that give them the capability to outdo challenges and to make tasks more efficient in a shorter span of time with lesser difficulties. Interestingly, even with the present aid being offered by technology, there are still instances wherein students use technology in order to cheat in the academic environment.

Cheating in the academic environment through the use of technology can be done in many ways. Among these methods, probably the most prominent is plagiarizing through the use of the internet in searching and copying documents and articles. Plagiarism aided by the internet allows the student to simply copy the article and paste the text into the document and submit it to the teacher. The abundance of information and academic materials in the internet provides a succulent resource for the lazy student who wants to look for an easier way to meet academic requirements.

In the process, the student becomes unable to hone one’s intellectual skills and, eventually, the purpose of schooling is defeated. In essence, cheating is unethical and, with the presence of technology—specifically the internet—it is one of the common enemy of the academic environment.
