The Christian Meaning of God
What do Christians believe about God. They believe that God has always been, he has no beginning and no end. He is a spirit, not made of flesh and bone. The first chapter of the Bible, Genesis1:13 says, “in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth”. This tells us that God existed before time or outside of time, since he chose a specific time, what he terms, the beginning, to create the heavens and the earth.
Even Plato has referenced the Bible according to Justin Martyr,4 who was a Christian apologist around 200 AD Plato wrote “time was created along with the heavens, in order that, coming into being together, they might also be together dissolved, if ever their dissolution should take place. ” He is the Creator of the Heavens and earth. ?In Exodus 3:145 God tells Moses that he is “I AM that I AM”. Again this supports the Christian claim that God has always existed. If God existed in time as mankind does, he would not know when “the beginning” began.
This basic premise gives the Christian the foundation in which to make ‘faith’ decisions about what they believe, with the understanding that God knows all the answers. It also allows the Christian to learn more about God by using the intellect, which was also given by God to examine the things he has created. Thesis Statement: God can be known through observing the things He has created. Paragraph 1: Does God care about mankind, is he mindful of us. Does he care about me? There are many scriptures in the Bible that discuss this topic. Psalm 8:3-56 says, “what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?
” The belief that God has us on his mind is amazing. The Creator is attentive to the entire universe, the galaxies, the millions of species, the oceans and mountains, the seasons and infinite stars. Yet, God is mindful of us. He has us on his mind. He is thinking about each of us. Jesus mentions in Luke 12:67, that God is aware of every sparrow that is sold in the marketplace, and how every hair on each of our heads is numbered. He also states that we are worth more than many sparrows. God desires to know us intimately. We can know him intimately. Paragraph 2:In the beginning God was not alone.
When he created the heavens and the earth, he was not alone. When he created mankind, he was not alone. Genesis 1:28 states that “the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters”. God is the I AM. Who is this Spirit that was moving. In Genesis 1:269 God says, “Let us make man in our image and after our likeness…” If God was alone, why would he say ‘Let Us’. God is a triune being. The Trinity Godhead consists of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. In John 1:110 it reads “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.
In John 1:1411, it reads “and the Word was made flesh and made his dwelling among us”. We have already mentioned John 3:1612 about how God gave his only Son. These scriptures support the belief that God exists in a Trinity of Being. From these biblical scriptures themselves we have found the three in one, the Trinity of God the Father, God the Son which is the Word, and God the Spirit which is his Power, moving over the earth. Paragraph #3: Can we know God as a Father, God’s son, and God’s Power. The answer is yes. Jesus tells the Son the story of the Prodigal son the Son.
It explains how we as children of our own natural fathers may go astray and decide to leave home or run away to discover our own path in life. Even if we have been foolish enough to squander all that our father has given and taught us. A loving father that has lost a son or daughter will never stop looking for them. Will never cease to want them to return home. This is the story of the prodigal son Luke 15:1113. When that lost son or daughter makes a phone call and wants to come home. What decent loving parent would not immediately take them in and restore them in every way possible.
Loving them and accepting them as they are without any conditions. Through this example given by Jesus the Word of God we can know the Power of love of forgiveness. Conclusion Does God exist; yes he has always existed. He existed before time. Does God care for us. Yes, he knows us intimately and gave his son to redeem our lives from eternal death. Can we know God. ?Yes, by observing the lives of those around us, we can know love. Is God the trinity. Yes, He is the Father that loves us, the son who gave us the word, the bible, and the Spirit the very power of God living among us.
