Pasadena City is well known for its Tournament of Roses, the Rose Bowl, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the California Institute of Technology. The first Tournament of Roses was staged in 1890 by members of Pasadena’s Valley Hunt Club, former residents of the East and Midwest eager to showcase their new home’s mild winter weather. Professor Charles F. Holder at a Club meeting has said “In New York, people are buried in snow, here our flowers are blooming and our oranges are about to bear. The Rose Bowl is a National Historic Landmark built in 1922 and known mainly for the New Year’s Tournament of Roses Football Game. The Rose Bowl Stadium has also earned its World-Class Reputation by hosting five NFL Super Bowl Games, the 1984 Olympic Soccer Matches, the 1994 Men’s World Cup, the 1999 Women’s World Cup, the 2002 and 2006 BCS National College Football Championship Games and numerous other memorable events over the past eighty plus years.

In 1907, the entry of the astronomer George Ellery Hale, first director of the Mt. Wilson Observatory, the university was envisioned molding it into a first-class institution for engineering and scientific research and education (Caltech. edu). For the next 85 years, the institute had added various programs in geology, biology, aeronautics, astronomy, astrophysics, the social sciences, computer science, and computation and neural systems.
It has achieved preeminence in the scientific community through the following scientific milestones: discovery of anti-matter, the nature of the chemical bond, the foundations of molecular biology, the birth of modern earthquake science, the recommended daily adult requirement, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory among others. With the above historical comprehension of Pasadena City, it has transformed from an agricultural area, to a commercial and industrial areas. With the people living in Pasadena, it has well preserved and supported its culture through community activities like the Tournament of Rose.
By the provision of a great venue represented by the structure, the Rose Bowl Stadium, local people and tourists has a great area to celebrate life and entertainment. While, the culmination of knowledge by the contributions of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to science and technology has well established space age advances. Lastly, the California Institute of Technology had contributed scientific milestones determined to help not only Pasadena’s people but mankind as a whole. Continued research and education in this facility address different pressing concerns and problems with regard to man, machine and his environment.
