One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest (1975)
One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) is one of the greatest American films I have ever watched and it is one of the best films ever made. The movie is a based on the novel by Dale Wasserman (Wasserman, 1974). Only a few films created during its period of production attained such a feat. The film was directed by Milos Foreman a renowned director from Czech Republic. “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest” depicts the astonishing representation of mental illness and how the most sophisticated country in the world is ill-equipped to deal with this menace.
Jack Nicholson gave a sterling performance in this film and his performance is worth commendation. Jack Nicholson was outstanding as McMurphy, the psychiatric patient who changed people’s perception of how to curb the menace called “mental illness” and made them see the illness from another point of view. Louise Fletcher is marvelous as Nurse Ratched, her dedication to the ethics of some established guiding principle was sensationally cruel, and her dedication to this norm was rather resolute.
McMurphy decides to escape his prison term by pretending to be insane in order to get a transfer to a rehabilitation center, where he feels he would enjoy a better treatment compared to the prison. The nurse in charge of his ward is Nurse Ratched, who has intimidated the patients, most of whom have unhappily yielded to her authority. McMurphy is involved in a series of supremacy battles with Nurse Ratched for the control of the other patients (Milos, 1975).
Various psychiatric illnesses were itemized perfectly to a state of disheartening realism. The outpouring of emotions associated with this film explains the depth of quality in the group of producers, directors, actors, actresses and the entire crew that took part in the making of this chartbuster. The ordeals of a poorly funded mental hospital are fully exposed in this movie; the authorities in the psychiatric hospital are handicapped by insufficient funding.
This unfortunate situation earns societal sympathy, with the promise of improving on the situation.
