It is because among the major cities in the United States, the said two cities have driven the fascination of non-Americans for these embody what the US is for them: a country of opulence and entertainment. In terms of population, no other US city can surpass these two megacities. New York is also the most populated city in the US in 2007, housing an estimated 8,274,527 New Yorkers.

Los Angeles, on the other hand, is the country’s second most populous city and metropolitan area in 2006, having 3,849,378 Angelinos in the city proper and 17,755,322 million in the metropolitan area. These two cities also exude influence and power more than any other American city. New York is the home of the New York Stock Exchange, New York is the foremost financial center of the United States and of the whole world.

It is also a leading global city, with influence encompassing the fields of commerce, finance, culture, fashion and entertainment. The population of these two cities is among the most culturally heterogeneous in the US.

Considerable part of the population of these two cities is immigrants.
