Fashion Merchandising Management

I consider myself a very fortunate person. Not everyone would have a background like mine and I think it is my duty to make the best of my situation. That is why I am keen on getting into this program of Fashion Merchandising Management. One day I would take up the reins of my father’s self made clothing business, expand, grow and see that this concern started by my father thrives and flourishes under my supervision. My father’s business Jacques Moret Inc was started in the year 1975 and today it is a company with a hundred million dollar turnover.

It is now called The Moret Group with many popular companies like Jacques Moret-[women’s active wear], Jacques Moret intimates-[women’s intimates], Regent-[women’s sportswear], and Alvin valley, under its wing. . It also licenses very popular brands such as Jockey, Ever last, and DKNY While my motive is clear and defined I need to know every nuance of the fashion industry and business. I am working in the Production department of Jacques Moret right now… This is not only giving me hands on practical experience but has reinforced my belief that I am ideally suited for this.

I share a natural passion for this field and that is why I transferred from Bharuch College to FIT I have enjoyed every minute of my study as a non matriculated student here for the two semesters. I took a few courses like introduction to fashion merchandising, fundamentals and techniques of fashion merchandising, advertising and promotion, and fundamentals of textiles. I loved these courses especially because I was able to apply theory to my practical work experience at the Production department.

I read Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) and Daily News Record (DNR) regularly to stay up to date with what is happening in the fashion industry This is not a new area of interest for me. With my natural flair for the field of fashion I know that I would make a mark in this field and it would be easier for me because I have an already established business . Knowledge is power and I wish to be acquainted with the latest techniques, skills required for a professional in this field. I am aware that this world of fashion is an ever-changing world because it has a lot to do with the human mind.

Perceptions, trends keep changing from time to time and any established business would have to keep changing, adapting and modifying strategies if it has to continue in its path of success. Apart from practical training, an analysis of the past trends and present developments is needed. A comprehensive approach to this field and an in depth knowledge of the ways in which this would work in the manufacturing, brand and retail segments are something that I hope to gain in this curriculum.

I also hope to get off campus varied work experience that would complement my training in this curriculum . It would help me have a rounded approach and a perspective from different angles. When I take up the reins of my father’s business and run it I would then be respected as a person in my own right rather than just the proprietor’s daughter. . I know that my father has been very successful and it is my moral obligation to see that the family business continues and expands.

It would be a criminal waste if I do not make use of the rare opportunity that I have in my father’s own concern. I would be able to experiment and innovate to the best of the interests of the firm. I cannot build castles on mere dreams. I need adequate technical knowledge, exposure to current trends and special skills to succeed in this fast-paced and ever-changing industry. I would have ample opportunity to implement my novel ideas and this is why I wish to get an advanced education in this curriculum.

The advanced training I get here would stand by me for the rest of my professional life. I am a quick learner and am not scared of hard work or interaction with people.
