This paper focuses on discussing the reason why the operation and communication of neurons are regarded as the basic element of a person’s behavior. Even before an infant was born, neurons or nerve cells are formed and dispersed in the infant’s brain in preparation for the infant’s exposure in the external world. Behavior of the infant is contingent and dependent to the relayed message of the neurons; for the same message shall be interpreted by the brain and from there, the brain shall decide on what response should the infant illicit after experiencing a stimulus in the environment.

The operations and communication of the neurons or nerve cells serves to control the function of the brain, therefore neurons are considered as the basic, fundamental elements of a person’s behavior. The Operation and Communication of Neurons: The Basic Elements of Behavior Introduction In every activity that a newborn baby performs, changes in the brain of this infant occur. Relatively, in every emotion that this infant projects through its facial expressions, there is an existing stimulus which account for the certain responses.

Moreover, these stimuli received by the infant’s body are communicated in the brain through the billions of neurons or nerve cells dispersed throughout the nervous system of an infant. As the infant grow, become an adult, and get old, these neurons continue to function and account for the behavior of a person although the nerve cells also die as it also get worn out and overused. Meanwhile, this paper focuses on discussing the reason why the operation and communication of neurons are regarded as the basic element of a person’s behavior.

Body Neurons or the nerve cells are the basic elements of behavior. It is through these neurons that message/information or stimulus from the environment reaches the human brain. Therefore, the stimulus interpreted by the brain would produce the response or the action or the individual who just received a stimulus. Thus, neurons account mostly for the behavior of a person since it is the initial medium of relaying the message from the stimulus in the environment.

If a stimulus from the environment is transmitted by the neurons in a certain way and interpreted by the brain in the same way, the behavioral response of a person would be contingent on the interpretation of the brain to a specific stimulus (Allen, 2009). Neurons are defined as “a nerve cell that handles information processing at the cellular level (Santrock, 2007). ” It is called the basic elements of behavior for the reason that the behavior response of a person would be dependent on the stimulus received by the neurotransmitters (neurons) and interpretation of the stimuli in the human brain.

Further, neurons are transmitters of messages/information received by an individual or any living organism from one’s external environment. The moment the messages are picked up by the interconnected neurons all over the human body, the neurons communicate with each other through passing the message/information with the use of chemical reactions. In so doing, the message, which serves as the stimuli, reaches the human brain and there it is processed as a stimulus which is culpable to a certain response from the human being (Feldman, 2009).

For instance, a person accidentally touches a boiling pan, the neurons would receive the stimuli (the hot, boiling) pan and would transmit the message to other neurons or nerve endings in vision and touch, and then to the brain. The brain would therefore process the information and would interpret the stimuli as a “hot” sensation. The human, after processing in his brain and seeing through his eyes that he just touched a hot object, would abruptly respond into quick withdrawal or avoidance of the hot boiling pan and would remove one’s hand on the hot surface of the pan.

Furthermore, neuroscientists/neurologists are aware that an infant in its newly born state has already successfully formed trillions of neurons or nerve cells in its brain/nervous system. Each nerve cell is interconnected and linked together to transmit messages coming from the external stimulus in the environment to the brain and back to the parts of the infant’s body to produce a reflex and reaction from the stimulus/stimuli (Feldman, 2009).

Conclusion

In conclusion, linkages of the neurons are already initially formed in the onset of conception and the even before the infant was born. Early experience of the infant in dealing with the external environment aids in developing how the brain shall interpret the messages that are being relayed by these neurons. As the infant grows up to become toddler, the neurons continue to multiply until ten years of age and the brain continues to develop the necessary responses it shall react from impulses or stimulus received in external environment.
